Govt. Degree college Sogam is situated at Sogam town that lies on south -east side( Bronhnay) of Lolab valley is a far-flung area of district Kupwara. The college stands permanently affiliated to the University of Kashmir and is permanently recognized by the University Grants Commission (New Delhi) under 12f and 2b.
At present the college offers Undergraduate courses in Arts, Science and Commerce streams with varied choices of subjects including Computer Application, Geology, Geography, Kashmiri, Islamic Studies, economics etc. and the college intends to widen its horizon of need-based, skill based and job-oriented subjects and courses in near future.
The college was sanctioned vide Govt. Order No: 269HE of 2007, dated 20/12/2007 and started functioning with effect from 7th May 2008.
Since 2018 the college is now established in newly developed campus spread over 108 Kanals of land that constitutes a part of biggest educational hub of the district spread over about 400 Kanals of land that accommodate BHSS, GHSS, MS, & ZEO’ office surrounded by two beautiful waterbodies (ponds), Paddy field, and green Forest with a unique scene. The college has developed considerably quantitatively as well as qualitatively. The present enrollment is more than 1100 including boys and girls It is the biggest multidisciplinary co-educational institution of Lolab valley catering the educational needs of students in higher education sector. The academic work is organized within a well-defined academic calendar. Main building of the college is one of the biggest buildings in the valley and has a double story building that houses all the departments/ administrative section/lecture theatres/laboratories/ library/staff room/Admission section/IT section /computer section /sports section and other essential facilities under one roof. The rapport of teaching – learning process is consistently being maintained for better academic environment. Because of worthy Principal ‘s keen interest and full sport of all staff the college is in progress in each aspect towards its future achievements and realization of its mission and vision.
