The Department of Economics was established in the year 2010 vide Higher Education order no. 335-HE of 2010 dated: 09.09.2010 to impart quality based education to the students of the Lolab Valley. We have permanent affiliation for economics with the University of Kashmir. The Department of Economics follows the syllabus of University of Kashmir under which it offers different subjects in Economics like Principles of Micro Economics-I, Principles of Micro economics II, Principles of Macro Economics-I, Principles of Macro Economics-II, Public Finance, Mathematical Economics, Financial Economics, Money and banking, Basic Micro economics, Basic Macro economics etc.
In order to increase the enrolment and to motivate students for opting Economics as a main subject, counseling sessions are conducted at the time of admission.
Though the college is situated in rural area, the Department is preparing students for acquiring applied knowledge of Economics to enhance their employability and has been functioning diligently to ensure academic excellence and intellectual growth of its students.
Welcome to the Department of Economics! Dear Students it gives me an immense pleasure to welcome all those students who have opted economics as one of their subjects at undergraduate level. It is a pleasure and honor to head the Department of Economics at Government Degree College Sogam Lolab which is striving towards the goal of providing a high quality education in economics to future leaders of industry, government and civil society. The main task of the department is to prepare the young minds of our students for the global competition. The courses that we offer are very helpful in preparing our students to be the leaders in the society. Since its inception in the year 2008, the department constantly works for the overall growth of students and inculcate the qualities/features that are required and acceptable by society. I am confident that our students will emerge as best assets not only to the institution and to the different departments they join, but to the society as a whole. The Department of Economics provides you a friendly environment, where you can share your thoughts with your teachers without any hesitation at any time. Besides this, the doors of the Department are always open for the suggestions and for any feedback.
