The discipline of Geography, popularly known as mother of all sciences, has nurtured the development of human civilizations from times immemorial. In fact, the first drop of the ocean of knowledge was Geography. The contemporary thrust on Inter-disciplinary approach has added more significance to the subject of Geography because the subject is inherently multidisciplinary. The dichotomous evolution of the subject of geography has given it a peculiar position in the classification of sciences where it bridges the gap between natural and social sciences. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject of geography provides an opportunity to the students from different fields to learn geography as it figures in the subject combination of social sciences, arts and natural sciences. Geography has a rich heritage of contributing to social service as it provides a number of job opportunities to its students in diverse fields. The subject of geography has proved to be an important option in civil services examinations. The advent of remote sensing and GIS technology has established the role of geography to overcome contemporary challenges like Climate Change, Global Warming, Floods, Earthquakes, Natural and Anthropogenic Disasters etc. The department strive to teach all the important branches of geography ranging from regional to systematic geography and from physical to human geography. At present the department has one sanctioned faculty position which is filled. The department is organizing field trips for the students to observe different geographical phenomenon in the field. Moreover, the department is furnished with the contemporary requirements to perform practical work.

Dear students, geography is an extraordinary subject. It acts as a bridge between natural and social sciences. The scope of the subject is so diverse that one can explore the topics ranging from social, political, economic and cultural origin to those dealing with the laws of physical, chemical and biological sciences. Such kind of diversity is rarely found in any other subject and therefore I believe that geography could prove to be an interesting subject to a wide range of students both all the backgrounds. The department of geography is a well established one and the period of its glory has already begun with the shifting of the department in the earth science block. I welcome you to the department of geography where the dedicated faculty is always ready to realise your dreams.
