The department of kashmiri was established in the year 2017. The department has remained focus of activities with regard to the development of kashmiri language. The teaching programme of the department is designed to provide students, the knowledge of kashmiri language and literature. The course contents of the department is ,script writing, kashmiri journalism, translation of literature, creative writing and comparative study of kashmiri with other languages especially for Urdu and English language, provided the students during the three year study. The courses and the syllabus are constantly being updated taking into consideration the contemporary needs of the society. Our students after completing their course will have the opportunity to get employment in the teaching profession, in the field of journalism and electronic media.

The aim of department is to acquaint the students with the value of Kashmiri language as a subject which is one of the oldest languages of the region as far as its semantics is concerned. The main object of the department is to spread awareness about literary and cultural importance in the lives of mankind in general and to highlight the identity and relevance of Kashmiri language and literature in modern era. Moreover, the department strives hard to enlighten the students as to how Kashmiri language has played a great role in the national integration of India. The department always welcomes those students who opt Kashmiri language/subject as one of the subjects. The department offers a six-semester course in Kashmiri subject under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and NEP 2020 as a core subject in arts stream and as a Skill, MIL and generic course for non-Kashmiri students having no prior knowledge of the Kashmiri language and literature.
