The department of Mathematics at Govt. Degree College Sogam was established in the year 2008, the same year of the establishment of college itself. The department has a total number of one (01) sanctioned post which stands unfilled. Since establishment, one of the major responsibilities of the department has been the “Mathematics” course which is taught to all undergraduate courses of Science and Arts. The vision of the department has been to strive for academic excellence and to nurture undergraduate students of this remote area by adopting various methods of teaching-learning to motivate our students in the learning of mathematics. In addition to lecture method we frequently use demonstration method, classroom discussion so that they can feel themselves fit in their professional environments. The college takes great pride in inducting Mathematics as a compulsory subject at undergraduate level and the main strength of the mathematics department is the coordination among faculty members and students. The department has produced good and positive results over the years and is growing very fast with the changing times only to ensure that whatever is imparted to students is at par with the best academic campuses of the valley. The department has also from time to time arranged certain programmes related to role and scope of mathematics which really help in fine tuning of the undergraduate students. The department is committed to promote excellence in teaching learning and foster a spirit academic honesty and dedication among all students of the college. In addition the faculty members also perform the role of mentors to provide necessary guidance to the students of the department.
